Treemedic Ltd — Health & Safety Policy

Last Updated: October 2025

Treemedic Ltd is committed to safe, compliant tree surgery and arboricultural operations across Surrey & South West London, protecting employees, subcontractors and the public while meeting all relevant UK legislation and best practice.

1. Policy Statement

We are committed to preventing injury and ill health, protecting the environment and ensuring every employee goes home safe. Health and safety is integral to planning and site operations. We foster a positive safety culture through training, communication and continuous improvement.

3. Responsibilities

Director (Ryan Wileman): Overall responsibility; ensures safe systems, maintained equipment and appropriate training; reviews incidents and near misses.

Employees: Take reasonable care; use PPE correctly; follow procedures; report unsafe conditions and incidents immediately.

Subcontractors: Must comply with this policy and legislation; provide evidence of competence, insurance and risk assessments before work.

4. Risk Assessment & Safe Systems of Work

Site-specific Risk Assessments (RA) and Method Statements (RAMS) are prepared for all tasks. Controls address risks from falling materials, chainsaws, traffic management and working at height. Emergency arrangements, including aerial rescue and first aid, are briefed prior to work and monitored on site.

5. Training & Competence

All staff hold relevant NPTC/LANTRA qualifications. Refresher training maintains competence. Toolbox talks and site inductions are carried out routinely.

6. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Required PPE includes helmets with chin straps, eye and hearing protection, chainsaw protective trousers/boots, high-visibility clothing and gloves. PPE is inspected regularly, replaced when damaged and worn as required.

7. Machinery, Tools & Equipment

Chainsaws, chippers and lifting equipment are maintained and inspected in line with PUWER and LOLER. Records are retained. Only trained, authorised personnel operate machinery.

8. Manual Handling

Manual handling is minimised using mechanical aids. Staff receive instruction on safe lifting to reduce strain and injury.

9. Working at Height

Climbing and aerial rescue are performed by competent staff using LOLER-inspected equipment. Anchor points are assessed and ground communication maintained.

10. Emergency Preparedness

Sites have a trained first aider, with emergency and rescue plans briefed before work. First aid kits, spill kits and fire extinguishers are carried on all vehicles.

11. Accident Reporting

All incidents, near misses and hazards are recorded, investigated and corrective actions implemented. RIDDOR-reportable incidents are notified to the HSE by the Director.

12. Consultation & Communication

We encourage open communication on safety. Feedback informs improvements. Information is shared via toolbox talks, noticeboards and digital channels.

13. Continuous Improvement

This policy is reviewed annually or following significant change, with the aim of continual improvement through learning and best practice.

14. Responsibility & Review

This Health & Safety Policy is signed and endorsed by the Director, who is responsible for its implementation and review.
