Treemedic Ltd is committed to delivering professional tree surgery and arboricultural services in a way that protects the environment, prevents pollution, and promotes sustainable resource use across Surrey & South West London.
1. Policy Statement
Our goal is to operate as an environmentally responsible tree surgery company, reducing waste, preventing pollution, and conserving natural resources wherever possible. Environmental considerations are integrated into planning, daily decision-making, and site operations.
2. Legal & Regulatory Compliance
Treemedic Ltd complies with relevant UK legislation and guidance, including (as applicable):
- Environmental Protection Act 1990
- Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011
- Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981
- Forestry Act 1967
- BS3998: Recommendations for Tree Work
All team members are briefed to understand and follow these requirements.
3. Key Environmental Objectives
- Minimise waste via efficient material use and recycling wherever possible.
- Reduce emissions by maintaining vehicles/equipment and adopting low-emission or battery tools where practical.
- Protect wildlife habitats by scheduling work to avoid disturbance (e.g., nesting season) and following ecological best practice.
- Recycle arisings such as woodchip and timber for landscaping, biomass, or community projects where feasible.
- Prevent pollution through safe handling/storage of fuels, oils and lubricants; immediate spill response.
- Reduce paper use through digital quoting, invoicing and record keeping.
- Promote awareness among staff, clients and suppliers to encourage sustainable choices.
4. Waste Management
- All waste is managed under the Duty of Care (Environmental Protection Act 1990).
- Treemedic Ltd holds appropriate Waste Carrier Registration (details available on request).
- Green waste and woodchip are recycled or composted where facilities allow.
- Metal, plastic and oil containers are returned to approved recycling or disposal facilities.
5. Energy & Resource Efficiency
- Vehicles and machinery are serviced regularly to maintain efficiency and reduce emissions.
- Low-noise, low-emission/battery equipment is introduced where operationally suitable.
- Engines, lights and equipment are switched off when not in use.
6. Procurement & Materials
- Preference for suppliers with strong environmental credentials.
- Use of sustainable, FSC-certified timber where applicable.
- Selection of environmentally considerate oils, lubricants and cleaning agents whenever feasible.
7. Training & Awareness
All staff and subcontractors receive induction and refresher training on environmental awareness, spill control, and waste reduction procedures. Toolbox talks reinforce good practice on site.
8. Continuous Improvement
This policy is reviewed annually by management to ensure compliance, effectiveness and continuous improvement. Staff are encouraged to propose ideas for reducing environmental impact.
9. Responsibility
The Director, Ryan Wileman, is responsible for implementing this policy and ensuring adequate resources and training are provided. Every employee shares responsibility for upholding these standards.
10. Communication
This policy is displayed in our office, shared with clients and subcontractors, and available online for download and reference.
